Thanks Jane.
It was great meeting you, too!
And thanks
very much for organising the whole reunion –
which I almost missed because I thought it
was next month! It was just such a great
couple of nights, although both Jane Winnie
and I had a little trepidation about meeting
up with people many of whom we hadn’t seen
for 45 years! This turned out to be quite
unnecessary, and the atmosphere was
fantastic and both night were thoroughly
enjoyed by all there. I was just sorry that
Val Murphy couldn’t make it….
It was great
to catch up with old friends – especially
people like Steve Robinson, who just
continues to get better and better. In the
past, Steve has composed the music scores
for about 15 short (and occasionally long)
films which I either directed or produced,
including one which was nominated for an
Oscar. (Bob Stenhouse’s
The Frog,
The Dog and The Devil¸- Best
animated short film, 1986, which I produced
and Kit Rollings did the sound design).
Hearing Steve perform last night made me
want to work with him again – and so it
shall be, if he agrees - I haven’t asked him
yet - with the next major production I
have….
I rang Val
Murphy and
gave her a
report on
the nights
events and
my reading
of her
letter, and
she was
thrilled to
hear that
her letter
was received
with great
good humour
and much
appreciation.

Dear Jane and all your
keen helpers,
You must be very proud of this
most successful and
memorable reunion last weekend.
The big
crowd attending clearly
had a great affection for Mary
and her unique "Monde Marie"
coffee bar as well as a strong
desire to assemble in the same
spot again to recapture their
own happy memories of this 60's
happening scene. And what's
more the added bonus of
hearing a collection of those
same dedicated singers who
helped build it's complete originality.
A
great occasion, wonderful food,
talented performers and such a
happy atmosphere made for
a resounding success on Saturday
night. A big thanks to the hard
working organisers and to every
body who came from
afar to reminiscence!
Lets hope that perhaps it
will be a regular event in the
future?

Just an Email to
say Thank You so much Jane for a GREAT evening
on Friday - hope you enjoyed it - I am sure
everyone else did. And wasn't I lucky being on
a table with Max Winnie's widow and son and
ex-flat mates... Such a good time. Hope you
will be able to send us a summing up at some
stage? Or some photographs? Meanwhile just a
big THANK YOU!

Hi there Jane.
Thanks heaps for the wonderful Monde weekend
re-union. Hard to believe it came and went so
damn fast!! It was brilliant and delivered a
treasure trove of good memories. I'm back in
Melbourne now, and am thinking about a return
visit to NZ to play some more music.....Good job
mate!! Stay in touch.
Cheers and best
wishes

I
didn't get round to emailing before
the event, and ever since have been
crook with the winter lurgy, but
here's my 2 penn'orth anyway, for
what it's worth. The reunion seems
to have gone off very well, going by
all the comments & photos on your
website, but I haven't read a word
in the local papers. It was such a
good idea, and deserved
every success. I really enjoyed
reading all the memories on your
website before the event too. Review
my memories

It is
a week ago since the Monde Marie
dinner and thank you for a wonderful
night. I met Raima Collins (a physio
I had worked with), as soon as I
came in and enjoyed the evening with
her. The warmth of the welcome, the
continuous video, the nostalgia of
spaghetti bolognese and chilli con
carne, the hats of the men, but most
of all the music although I missed
the Italian arias which were sung
when I was working there in '62 and
'63. I had to tear myself away to
catch a bus! You had done such a
good job in organising the evening,
and I am sure that if you do have
another reunion down the track it
will be just as well supported and
just as successful. Thank you indeed
for all your efforts.
